We have recently had an oak floor laid in our hallway.quary tiles were removed prior and the carpenter used batons then ply as the base.there is an area with central heating pipes underneath and the boards have started to cup and the oak skirting board is bowed and coming apart at the join over this area.
Is there anything that can be done to rectify this problem,we have been told that oak is renowned for doing this. We are now thinking we should have been advised to use an alternative product that would be suitable to go above pipes.
Thanks if you got this far, would really appreciate any advice!

Is the hall sub-floor solid?

What type of oak flooring?

Can you post a pic?

The floor is concrete under the ply and batons.

Solid oak 18mm floorboards from local hardware store, skirting is solid white oak

Does the concrete floor have a membrane (DPM)?

Are the c/h pipes copper or plastic?

Without a pic of the rad and its risers in relation to the cupping boards its difficult to give a view.

How come you are sure? You have to see one or lay one to be sure.

Thr Cu flow and return should have been insulated?

Without a pic its not much use me saying any more - maybe others will jump in with more knowledge or experience?

I saw the plastic membrane when the old tiles and screed were taken out.

I can see my photos but not sure how to add so you can see them!

Thanks for the pics. But where's the pic of the rad and the cupping floor?

Your skirting would have been best returned on to the wall plaster not butting against the door lining where vibrations might disturb it. The bottom of the door lining appears to have pulled away from the stud that its fixed to (or maybe its just shadow).
The return mitre doesn't appear to have been pinned.

Where, if anywhere, are the c/h pipes in the above two pics?

Above, there is an obvious patch of plaster missing - why, what happened?

The central heating pipes are under the floorboards in the pic, they have started to cup,the floor has only been down 4 weeks. The boards around the actual radiator are fine.
The skirting boards have been added within the last yr.this is a v old cottage with wonky walls hence the patch of plaster I think you're referring to.

There was not a problem with the skirting splitting and bowing when the old quarry tiled floor was in place, only since the wooden floor has gone down

OP, when i ask you a question its for a purpose. I still dont know where the pipes are or the rad risers. I asked for this info because it might help me go logically thro possibilities.

Your best bet is to get the original installer back on site.
