Sentinel Combiguard cartridge

I need to replace my Sentinel Combiguard cartridge but ive not done it before.

it obviously connected to the central heating system but i'm warried that during the phyiscal replacement at somepoint i need to unscrew it; wont water just start pooring out of the pipe work until i screw the replacement in.

how does this cartidge work that stops water coming out of the pipes when i take it off.
