ive just taken the servo vacuum pump of my l reg escort diesel, but cant put the new one back on.the bolt holes wont line up cos a metal bar that i pressume moves in and out the engine when running is stopping the pump sitting flush on the cylinder head.hope ive explained it clear enough.

Yeah.......... think i know the part you mean (right hand side of cyl head?)
The plunger runs of a cam lobe on the camshaft. If you turn the engine over a bit with a spanner you should find a position where it will sit back ok
