Shed Weather Protection

Hi.

Can anyone recommend a good way to weather protect my shed. Ideally I want a clear product. I don't want to colour my shed. Should I use an exterior clear varnish?

Any particular products you can suggest? Cuprinol? Ronseal? Own brand product? Spray or paint? What's best? Hopefully something that won't need doing again in a few years time.

If you dont want a colour on your shed, i would use Tompsons water seal on it. It goes on like water, its really good stuff. Apply it every year or so, Screwfix do their own brand water seal which is just as good at around 18 quid a tin. It will be more than enough for a large shed.

Thanks for the reply, but I don't want something I will have to apply annually. I want a one time solution, if possible.

There's no product I'm aware of that will last forever. They all need to be re-applied regularly because they degrade with the weather. I've not found much to choose between them. Pay a lot for a brand name or less for an own label, they're often the same product.

Water seal is still your best option, you could get away with leaving it for a few years between coats, if your timber is pressure treated which it should be, this plus a good water seal treatment your shed will out last you. It only takes about a half hour to do,

If you want one that will last as long as possible between coats, go for a solvent based product rather than water-based.

I've used Screw fix's own brand water seal and Thompsons. Ive not noticed any difference in the products.
