Shingles vaccine for our older members

You must be confusing the issue or the posting person

You really think that people are more informed nowadays than in the past decades at the time of new vaccines being introduced?

In fact research time in the past was longer and more control groups used for testing, but corners were still cut not only in vaccines but drug treatments...

Ever heard of thalidomide?

Or Pfizer and Trovan?

The drug companies bottom line is the same now as it was then - profit!
Those aren't vaccines.

Yes science is much more rigorous now. The quality we demand is much higher. The older vaccines were basically waved through in comparison, drugs too for that matter.

Take thalidomide, we didn't test medicines on as wide a range of people then, and so we didn't discover the effect thalidomide could have on pregnant women. Now we test more carefully. Even your own examples prove you're wrong.

All companies bottom line is the same now as it has always been - profit. If you have ever had experience of running one, you’d know that.
Thanks for repeating the bleeding obvious...

Which drug company did you run?

Really?

"US health officials are planning to tighten vaccine approval processes, based on a review of data, which they claim shows that 10 children died from covid-19 vaccinations"

“For the first time, the US FDA will acknowledge that covid-19 vaccines have killed American children. Healthy young children"

and...

"COVID-19 vaccines were not included in initial pre-registration clinical trials for pregnant women"

They reviewed the data after!

But hey, if you want to believe that everything is now safe and above board then that's up to you!

RFK jr is an antivaxer, quoting his department as it slashes all vaccine schedules as if it's an honest and fair analysis of the science is stupid.

And yes, reviewing the data afterwards and monitoring the safety in the years following approval is incredibly important to pick up rare side effects. Guess when VAERs was first introduced? The 1990s.

Testing is far from perfect but it is far better than it has ever been.

I wasn't repeating anything you said. You seem to think that drug companies that invest millions in research are different from any other companies and shouldn’t make a profit. Grow up Woolfie. The bigger the investment, the bigger the reward.

Im so disappointed in the quality of the anti-science crowd these days. They haven't even realised the vaccine that this entire thread is no longer available in the UK on the NHS because of the level of adverse reactions!

Namely that while it is and was safe and very effective, a newer vaccine that was even safer came to market and replaced the old one. The constant cycle of testing, reviewing and improving vaccination treatments rolls on.

I had chicken pox (NOT shingles) when I was about 30. It started like a really bad cold, feeling lousy and achy. I didn't know it was chicken pox during this as the spots don't appear at first, in fact they only appeared when I started to feel better.

I've been lucky and had very good health all my life, the chicken pox is so far the most poorly I've ever been! I put my good health down to being active, seeing fun in everything and never taking life too seriously, working hard, never taking drugs - legal or otherwise and never following any trends or fashions in thinking.
I had it at about 40. It was horrible, I had a kind of feverish high madness for about a fortnight. It can be fatal in adults.

Anyway, every cloud has a silver lining - I was a lifelong smoker, wanted to stop but didn't like the withdrawal symptoms. I decided that while I already felt completely insane I may as well throw nicotine withdrawal in the pot at the same time, as I couldn't get any more weird feeling. It worked, I haven't smoked or used any nictotine products since.

I learnt to almost enjoy the madness. Just put some weird music on and float away into it. Kind of like a recreational drug really.

Who said anything about not making any profit?

And which drug company did you run?

Are you deliberately missing the point or genuinely not understanding?

The reference was to running a company, not a drug company.

Profit is the point of all companies, including drug companies.

And therefore the public is the 'quality control' aspect with all the risks that entails...

Maybe you could tell us why the drug companies who rolled out the experimental covid jabs were largely given immunity from normal liability laws?

I was referring to drug company profits specifically...

Not my problem that someone got confused ;)

No, the public is getting the best medical care available at the time and as improvements are developed they push out older ones.

Do you somehow want to wait for a perfect vaccine without any adverse reactions and perfect protection before it is ever rolled out?

Maybe you could tell us why the drug companies who rolled out the experimental covid jabs were largely given immunity from normal liability laws?

I could, but that's been done to death. In short: there was a pandemic.
