Is there anything wrong with installing a shock arrestor after the mains stop tap in my house. Im getting water hammer my house on a shared mains I think it could be the washer in my stop tap so that's why am looking at changing it. Is there any issues with installing a shock arrestor above it too?

Not that I’m aware of. In fact I think some of our plumbers installed on in an attempt to combat water hammer but it didn’t fix it.

Why do you think a washer in your stop valve causes water hammer

I think it maybe loose causing vibrations it starts and night or when there isn't much demand. It's not a sound that just comes when you open a tap

Do the mechanical ones lead to a dead leg at all? I would pipe up after the stop tap with a 15mm tee with 1/2 in the branch.
