Are modern shower cubicles designed to be connected to a toilet waste connector? Are their traps suitable for the job?
I'm not sure my shower cubicle has a suitable trap - it is similar to this one:

The metal dome accessible from inside the shower cubicle can act as a trap - by pressing it down - but that's not exactly the same as having something like this:

To add to the problem...the cubicle has a steam engine with relative waste exit which is connected via a flexible hose to the shower "trap" (nearby the 32mm outlet).

I'm thinking of fitting a shallow trap and connecting the flexible hose from the steamer somewhere between the trap and the toilet waste.

Yeah, it should work the same. I just fitted a steam shower, a modern one (from Di Vapor) and it has a trap which stops smells from going back up, which also had the steam waste exit as well, which went into the trap. The pipe connected to the toilet waste no problem, but my pipe was 40mm. You said your pipe was 32mm? Maybe you need to change your trap or have a converter which takes your pipe from 32mm to 40mm?
