I have a Grohe shower coming off a Ariston combi. The boiler has been well serviced and is finally trouble free. All taps run well save for the shower. This has fluctuating water temperature and the thermostatic cartridge on the hot side is clogged with limescale deposits. This was replaced 6 months ago and seems to have clogged very quickly. If we run the water in the bathroom into a bucket it has bits of limescale. The bathroom is isolated with a stop cock.

Does anyone know what the options are for filtering the bathroom water (perhaps just after the stop cock?) Would a new shower unit fix the issue or would its filter just keep getting clogged.

Anyone have any plumber suggestions for NW6 to sort this problem once and for all as I dont want to keep replacing the shower's thermostatic cartridge

Your issue is hard water depositing limescale when hot.

A water softener for the whole house is your ideal solution.

A cheap option would be to fit an in line lime beater magnet which have mixed and varying results.

Good luck
