I am now starting to pull out my hair I do not know where to start. My shower every now and again has a small drip which will stop when you push in the turn switch (what every you call the thing the turns on the water hehehe). Then if I run the cold water on the bath a small line of water will start to run out of the shower head? Again this will stop when you push in the turn switch but may or may not start again but when this happens it may also make a noise up the pipes. Also this will happen when running taps from the kitchen sink and sometimes a noise will come from the bathroom pipes when we flush the toilet. We have not long bought this house and we have come across some many bodge diy jobs by the previous owners it's crazy. Just before we moved in they instulled a pressure valve but not being a plumber not sure if this is was is causing the issue. Please could someone help? Cheers

A lot of unknown things here to make any judgement.
Is the push turn thingy a knob on an electric shower or is it a chrome valve with pipes connected?
If it is a chrome valve, do you have a combi boiler ie fires up when you draw hot water or do you have a copper cylinder probably in a drying cupboard?

It does sound like a low pressure problem.
You say the previous had a PRV fitted. I wonder if it was set properly.
If there is a pressure guage it should read about 45psi or 3.2 bar.
Thats what you are looking for.
You could also make sure the main stop cock is fully open but don't lock it on the back seat.

It was most likely not set correctly like a lot of things we have found done wrong in this house. There is no gauge so how can we work out the correct pressure?

The question is - why did the previous occupants have a PRV installed? One assumes (dangerous word, that) the boiler was fitted by a pro RGI who would have taken the pressure/flow rate into account when (s)he specified and installed the boiler. :?

What sort of shower mixer have you got?

Hi Ian, Thanks for your help so far. Please see my photo album which shows the type of shower mix we have and the pipe valve they fitted, and I hope this helps you to help us.

Cheers

Hi Ian or anyone else. We are still currently having the same issues. Any ideas on what we need to do or what it can be? Cheers Kim

The shower turn switch is worn - you shouldn`t be able to push it in  . The noises in the pipes come from high mains pressure/Maybe unclipped pipes - the previous owners put in the pressure valve to address this - Repair/replace shower mixer and check the pressure flow from the valved mains water supply . One assumption - you have a combi boiler

Kimmy, Nige sounds to be spot on with his diagnosis. I had said earlier on a previous post that that you probably had low pressure. After re-reading you op I don't know how I could have come to that conclusion. I think I was just crossing with another posters problem which I answered and who had low pressure.
You must initially have the PRV setting checked. Now Iwould guess you are reluctant to call in a plumber££££
So hear is a suggestion buy this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Caleffi-3...arden_Hearing_Cooling_Air&hash=item27bfd44028
You could fit this yourself and save quite a bit of cash. It would always be handy in future to check or reset.
Another story. My brother is a vicar he was wearing his dog collar one day when he was approached by a man with the same problem of noisey pipes. He asked if my brother could perform an exorcism!!
If all else fails maybe you could try this???
