Hi picasso, i really appreciate your help, but i am quite certain that the valve can not go any further into the back plate. Check the image attach looking up at the valve

Yea looks like the elbows are too short.

Did you use the compression nuts supplied with the shower valve, the nuts supplied with these showers are a longer patten nut.

I had a valve from inglorious plumb (name changed to protect the guilty!) that had exactly the same issue... its bad design. I just used an extra pair of pipe collars to hide the copper that showed.
