Our shower has stopped working.
To put into perspective, a few days ago, it was noticed by the mrs' that when the shower was turned on, there was a leak with the unit. as a very slow amount of water was trickling outside the shower box, but was still functional.
however, from yesterday the shower has stopped working (sort of)
i opened up the shower face plate box and noticed that when i unplugged the little switch on the circuit board, the shower works perfectly, but will not respond to when i turn the shower off from the shower box i..e turning it off has no effect.
It can only be switched off from the fuse unit outside the bathroom, however the shower still works this way.
for now i have unplugged the switch to the internal circuit board, so that the shower can still be used.
i took the following picture, and have highlighted the switch that i unplugged
couple questions:
1) is this a complex job, or do i need a qualified person to fix?
2) is it safe to use the shower, bearing in mind i unplugged the circuit board?
Ta.

nothing, the wire goes to a plastic switch within the shower.
i see what you mean looking at the picture, it looks as if its going elsewhere..but it isnt.

the red wire looks as though its' not connected you can see the copper wire showing that should be inside the connector block

checked it over its definitely connected ok.
also
done a bit of research, and have identified the 'circuit board' as being the 'Phased shutdown PCB'
this is what i have unplugged for now, in order that the shower can be used
which im hoping is safe to do?

whats the shower doing with the phased shut down connected that it don't do when disconnected ?

when connected, the shower doesnt work i.e. no water comes out. but the light on the shower unit is on.
when disconnected, shower works..water comes on through shower but unable to turn shower off from the shower unit i.e the on/off button.
i have to turn off via the fuse unit outside the bathroom

the model is a newteam 'ten four', am i right in saying this is an electric shower?

sounds like the phased shut down pcb has failed.
you say you had a leak where is that from did it go on the pcb ?

not sure about the leak, as when it occurred, water was coming out of the shower box(from the bottom, where the pipe connects to the shower head).
when i opened it up and tried to replicate the problem, there was no leak, and i have shut the box up again, and there isnt a leak anymore, so not sure about that!

is the PCB available as a spare part? if it is, is it a straightforward job to replace this?

just an update, i spoke with newteam/bristan, and they arranged to send me the following replacement parts:
PCB board
low pressure microswitch.

installed this morning, and has made no difference to the results i was getting from before :(
is it safe to assume that the shower requires replacing or anything else i can try?

Did you pay for the spares? Most of the time an old shower isnt worth fixing anyway. You can get a Newteam, Bristin, Galaxy for around the £60 mark anyway.

Plus for installers its not worth the hassle. We fix a part and if something else goes on it in the next 12months the customer blames you.

Throw it in the bin, get a new one, even if your not handy its fairly simple.

Most showers now have a swivel neck so you can have left or right water feed like yours, but make sure to check or its messing with pipework then.
Also check the side of the cable feed on any new shower as if its opposite to yours it can be a pain.

As i only fit Triton's and Mira's I dont know about cable entry on the cheaper ones, but the Triton T80Z would be a straight swap for you. About £110 in a 8.5Kw

got the parts for free.
im probably just gonna fork out for a new one i think.
not sure whether to go for a direct replacement or a triton,
does anyone know if the T100xr will be ok as a direct replacement, i.e. no re plumbing or hacking of tiles required

If i remember correctly everything is on the right hand side with the 100xr, which isnt a problem as long as you have the space to move it over 5-6 inches to the left. Also your current shower would have to be tiled behind.

Im pretty sure they only do the 100xr in 9.5kw and 10.5.kw. Looking at your cable its 6mm, so unless its clipped direct from the consumer unit your cable will be under sized for the 9.5kw.
