shower trap

ive noticed what appears to be a wet plaster smell from my shower. i checked the silicon around the internal perimeter and appears fine.
i unscrewed the shower trap and wondered shouldn't there be a silicone bead around this area ? is it possible water is getting down the side and causing the smell. any tips how to seal appreciated

What trap is it ? Most are sealed to the tray with a seal ,which sits on the underside of the tray.
What exactly have you unscrewed ?
