I'm installing my shower tray over coming days and i have 22mm chipboard throughout upstairs - would you suggest 18mm ply for bathroom instead of chipboard?

That leads to another question - can i use glue/silicone to bed shower tray or is mortar the way to go?

Follow the tray manufacturers instructions . Ply is better than chipboard ,like for like thickness. Is it worth changing , I doubt it .

Personally, I recommend that P5 is removed anywhere near/below a wet area. All it takes is one leak and the flooring can become seriously unsafe. WBP Ply might be excessive given it's cost. A reasonable alternative, final floor covering not withstanding, is T&G OSB3.
