Had a shower room makeover last year and this morning the waste couldn’t cope with the pumped water supply and the tray was almost full when I finished my shower. The same happened when my wife had her shower so she took the chrome cap off the waste and lifted out the small cup below. The water then drained away quickly. The tray is 1500 x 800mm with the shower head on one side and the waste on the other. Any ideas?

Does your shower room have an extractor fan? I was surprised at the amount of 'pull' some fans have and that could be just enough to reduce the wate flow while the crud device was in the trap. I had a similar problem and just leaving the door slightly ajar fixed the problem, so I installed a small permanent vent. I'm not saying this is your problem, but it could be.

Thanks for the rapid reply! The room does have an extractor fan and the window is also slightly open too during and after showering.

Well, that eliminated a small vacuum holding the water back, so all I can suggest is a good pump-through with a waste clearing tool.

Presumably it didn't do this up until now? It'll be an air lock - usually due to not enough fall on the waste below to ensure the trap can flow properly and the waste can then self clean, therefore the waste is now backing up as it's becoming restricted.

As suggested, a good clean out will be needed, a pumped plunger like that is a good option. Pull the cover off the waste and take out the dip cup, fill tray with water and use that to plunge the waste run. Once it starts to run properly then use a basin full of very hot water with detergent, once a month to keep the waste clear.
