Shower tray

Got a question on bedding shower trays.Ive been taught to dab tile adhesive and then level the tray.I know this is probably the wrong way to do it but I’ve never had any issues.
Whats the best way to level a tray without raising it up to much?
I’ve heard people saying they use a 20 mm notched trowel,buts that’s no good if the floors 15mm out.
I’ve found it difficult before to lay a bed throughout the area and have the whole tray have contact with it.
Any tips please?

I’ll stick to my 20mm notch and Tile Adhesive. If the floor across the size of a tray is more than 5mm out, i’d be fixing the floor.

These days, it depends but TBH the floor should never be out anything much at all. I'll always start with a level floor, even if the existing floor has to come up to sort it out, part of the job IMHO.

A lot of the flat based stone resin trays I've laid have been using a polymer adhesive. I prefer using a silicone adhesive onto a nice flat floor rather than a flexi tile adhesive much easier to level out and support.

Only time I use a flexi tile adhesive is where the base has recesses/ridges etc.
