shut off valve toilet (sorry if this is a silly question)

My toilet has developed a fault where water is continuously into the bowl.
I will be calling a plumber to fix it next week.

In the meantime I have turned the mains water supply off. However water goes to the toilet from the header tank which is full with water.

I have also turned the shut off valve to the toilet, which has stopped the water entering into the toilet. I did this last night and it worked at stopping the flow of water.

My question (and sorry as this is probably a very silly question!): will the valve hold the water back? I have gone away for the weekend and am worried that the pressure of the water will cause the valve to break?
I am considering returning to the house to check!

Thanks for any advice.

Rachel.
