Received an email this morning with a video attached, it is footage of a flogging of a first time convicted drink driver in Singapore.

Fair made my stomach turn. That said, I believe that drink driving (and most crimes) in that country is almost none existent.

Would have posted a link, but it's just to gruesome.

The question is, this sort of punishment reduces crime, it works and as such can it be justified?

If you have the stomach to watch the video, PM me and I will send you the link.

I've visited Singapore a few times, its a very safe, clean place, they give up one set of freedoms for another, they would be appalled by the crimes committed here and I wouldn't be able to watch a video someone being killed by a drunk driver, however! I prefer to live with our set of freedoms than theirs, they have few civil rights but I'm starting to lean towards theirs.

When i was backpacking through Indonesia I saw a driver who had knocked a cyclist down being dragged out of his car by passing pedestrians and getting a right doing. No drink involved that I'm aware of.
Guess different countries have different tollerance levels on these things - I was really shocked but if those are the rules where you live.......
Maybe introduce a bit of flogging in this country?

Johnmelad, I dont think thats sickening. Its the sort of thing we need in this country.

Repeal the human rights act (its only there to protect criminals anyway and they know it), then we can do what the hell we like with them. Throw away the key. Right to a legal representative? Get lost, we know you dunnit.

I tend towards 'when in Rome… '

I’ve said this elsewhere but I have never understood what gives us, The West, to act like self appointed police of the world and have the audacity to try and introduce democracy in other countries when we can’t even get it right in our own.

As disgusting as it seems to us I’m sure if little Johnny was a thief he’d think twice if the penalty was to get his hand cut off in public. It's got to be more effective than sending him for a two week break in Spain, the poor thing, which my tax £s pay for
