Hi first post and female...be kind :?

Simple question...want to build a small single story extension on the back of the house but limited on space.

Can I build upto the soil pipe (old cast iron) or do I have to leave a mile in case anyone ever needs to get to it? Just so you know only access is from my side as next door have a conservatory right upto it.

Just thought i'd ask before I look a complete numpty in front of the builder!

Cheers.

There's nothing wrong with an 'internal' soil stack. It's quite common to build close up to, or around it, then 'box it in' with plywood / plasterboard to conceal it.

There's usually an inspection cover in the ground close to the base of the stack that may need to be either replaced with a sealed version or moved along the drain line if it falls inside your new extension.

sounds like it would be better just to re-route it if possible, your builder should be able to advise you.
