Sink waste replacement

Hi. Can anyone help. I need to replace a hand basin waste but am having difficulty unscrewing the large hex nut fixing the waste to the sink and the hex nut joining the waste to the waset pipe. There must be a special spanner for this but I am having trouble locating one and the access behind ther sink is difficult.

Any advice or help on which spanner to use?
