What size amp would I need for 8255 watts please. Have a 30amp fuse free in consumer unit.

Here you are

Watts is Amps multiped by volts.

UK volts is about 230.

Work it out.

Are you competent to do this?

Amps x Volts = Watts
Watts divided by volts = Amps
Watts divided by Amps = Volts

Not really but learning. Take it I need a 40 amp fuse in the consumer unit (35.891304).

I am not that bright, please would you tell me what size fuse I need in the consumer unit to take 8255 watts which is a split level cooker.

8255 divided by 230 = 35 ish

For a cooker 32A would usually be enough but 40A would be preferable. The cable needs to be 6mm.

If you have an old consumer unit it might not be capable of taking an MCB above 32a.

Avoid a cooker switch with an integrated socket or someone will plug a kettle or toaster into it which would be another 13A or so of load.

I don't think you should be doing this yourself. It is notifiable work.

As a rule, any CU with a main switch <100A should not be loaded with any circuits in excess of 32A.
