Does skim coat need one or two coats.

Bathroom has one old wall and the rest is plasterboard which has been painted on. I think it had rough plaster underneath which had been painted directly on.. The plasterer never mentioned doing two coats

Two.

now I am confused. I asked someone else and they said that they would use board finish on the plasterboard and thistle one coat on the original plaster wall which is not in bad cndition just bumpy. Can you clarify??

only a complete knob or novice would attempt one-coat skimming.

Be carefull!! there are a lot of Knobs out there!!!! I have a mate who's brother is supposed to be a 'busy plasterer' His favorite phrase is 'two coats is twice the work' He never does two coats!! Ive never seen his work but Ive a feeling I may be called to put right some of his jobs someday soon!!!!

Two differnt types of plaster there , board finnish should have 2 coats for a qualiyfinnish , 2mm ,then 1mm .One coat plaster is different plaster , its backing and finnish plaster in one , thats why it is being applied to the bumpy wall , it can be applied thick enough to cover the bumps, rulled off , then sponge floated , then trowell finnished.
