Is it possible to skim over render, I have a outbuilding which is rendered and it needs repairing, I wondered if I could get it skimmed rather then rendered.

Spose it would be Ok if you live in the Atacama desert, but from Gateshead to Exeter I would imagine not...emphatically.

well as legs said don't skim it (by skim im guessing you mean plaster not a thin coat of render) either way dont do it you can either have it hacked off and re-done which is the expensive route out but in my opinion the best or you can just have it patched but trust me a patch is a patch and will look toot specially if the current render is painted already. i know its money but i would recomend haveing it taken off and re rendered its an all round better finish.

I wasnt really sure if I meant plaster it, just looking for ideas to smooth it over, looks like its not possible but thanks anyway

Render can be plaster skimmed without any problem at all, if it's in a "dry, normal, internal situation"..

You "wouldn't" skim render though, if it was in, say an outbuilding, barn/store or similar, that had no heating etc, and was subject to damp and cold. Render on it's own, in or outside of an outbuilding,, no problem.

Roughcaster.
