Hi all, having sky hd installed friday (scrubbed from last week as fitter's ladder wasn't big enough) so running my own wf100 from loft etc and both cables coming down inside wall into double wall plate, but someone told me it's best not to use the wall plate but just have the both runs of cable straight into tv avoiding a join, would this be the right thing to do? or use the plate with the connecters, cheers all.

Connections are a frequent source of trouble, and avoiding them is always a good move. I would always go with a direct connection if it's practical.
Agreed with Gary, if there is a way to avoid a join do it as it can cause interference
