Been having this problem since 2011. After 2 sky hd boxes 4 sky engineers over 2 1/2 yrs of frustration another engineer today still doesn't know whats the cause. lounge tv with hd box is never a problem as connected via a hdmi cable and a coax from rf 1 to tv. RF2 goes direct to attic and distributes to 7 tvs with magic eyes. All 7 tvs often have an intermittent background bumping rumble noise. If I disconnect the cable going to the booster and remove the hdmi and only connect the lounge tv only by coax then that tv makes the noise too. If I remove cable out of hd box 1 of the lnb feeds its a very faint noise . Can only hear it when tv muted. plug it back in the noise is back. swap lnb supplies over and remove it out of 1 its almost goes. wondering if it could be lnb fault or cables . same lmb feeds a sky + multiroom box and this is never a problem. it was original box from lounge and was never a problem in there.

Easy. Your specific Amstrad model has a poor RF modulator design in which one or more wire coils is sensitive to vibration (especially from the Hard Drive and fan). In technospeak it is "microphonic".

The simple solution is to drip wax onto the coil or coils.

BTW the abbreviation for "Low Noise Block-downconverter" is "LNB" not "lmb" or "lnb". In the same vein, the abbreviation "hdmi" is more easily read as "HDMI", "rf" as "RF", "tv" as "TV", "hd" as "HD", etc.

Your pithy footnote "You can run but you cant hide." is missing an apostrophe from "can't".
