Sliding Wardrobe

Are you building one yourself?
As it would be difficult to answer your question without a little more detail into why you are asking the question, as you have linked to products that answer your questions.

sorry, yes i am intending to build myself

currently i was going to use a kit that slides on the floor as b&q and wickes etc do, but after looking at these wardrobes i think its nicer to have it set off the cround so was wondering if a similar track setup could be obtained

Not sure what the question is? , the base rail can be set on timber off the floor, does not require anything special. Just more practical to sit on the floor so you don't trip over it.

Go and look at your local ikea, you can buy the tracking etc - even the doors to save you a job.

I'm not entirely sure, but I don't think you can buy the rails separately at Ikea - I think you need to buy them with a pair of doors...

Worth a trip to find out I guess.

(I am in the process of planning an Ikea based fitted wardrobe solution myself so have been spending some time looking at installation instructions to see how I can use their bits and pieces to suit my needs)

Thanks Matty, I had been concentrating on the Pax range, hadn't looked at the Besta range...

More homework needed!

If you have one near you then you can have a good rummage and ask in the customer services.

I'm going at the weekend to ge the daughter a glurgle nurgle borken durka - (or was that a chair?) and will try and remember to have a look & let you know what I find, what length rail are you after?

I had one of those!

The length is not so important - I am contemplating using Ikea carcases to create a 'built in' wardrobe to go along one longish wall in a spare bedroom. I want to avoid the 'freestanding wobble about like a drunken bas***d' look.

As usual with this house, due to its age, nothing is standard. Looking at the fitting instructions for the Besta rails though, it looks like they would be customisable to any length....

Any opinions on that would be good.

Thanks...

I live in a adjoined back to back terrace, in my master bedroom there was a long corridor alongside it where a staircase used to be.
I removed most of the wall to make a large recess to fit wardrobes into, sorted a floor and lined it etc.

I "was" going to build wardrobes, dowel joints, use veneered wood etc.

By the time I had costed the whole thing, realised how long it would take me, how inaccurate my joints would be et all we realised that by going to Ikea and getting some PAX carcasses I could achieve the same thing - some wardrobes in the recess - much better built and with pull out wire trays for socks/underwear etc.

Each unit was screwed to the next to make them all secure, I even put power cables in above for lighting that I have never fitted.

For the doors I got some Stanley sliding doors off of Freecycle, hung them on the rails and the finish is excellent.

We hate it now - the mirrored glass doors are too dark lol

So the next plan (not happening anytime soon plan) is to take them off and simply fit the proper PAX sliding doors, shouldnt be too hard, in fact the hard thing will be getting the old doors out of the house without smashing them.

I went, looked and asked.

They do the track system separately but as the guy said - its engineered to fit the ikea range so you would have to re engineer it if anything you want is different.

You can even get the frame for the doors so you can put your own panels in.

Worth a look maybe.

I was in there for about 3 hours, eventually managed to crawl to the way out and escape. We originally went there to get my daughter a computer chair, after all we spent - guess what we did not come home with :)
