Slippery railway sleepers

We had some steps built up to an outbuilding, they used modern railway sleepers dug into the slipped ground for the frame filled with gravel.
Look nice but unsurprisingly the wood is slippery when wet, and when we got frost it was treacherously covered in black ice.

I’ve looked at grip strips but wondered if anyone had other suggestions.
I was recently at a national trust place and their woodland walks used what appeared to be chicken wire stretched over wood. It seemed quite effective but wouldn’t have occurred to me
