New backdoorway fitted not that long ago which drops down to a step that slopes then to the ground.

However, my mum is getting on a bit and I'm thinking or replacing the one step with two smaller ones to make it easier for her.

The current step slopes slightly though I don't know if that's to shed water or just a dodgie builder. Should the steps be level or sloping away from the house? I thought level until someone said they should slope to shed water.

What's the done thing?

Steps should be level. However steps of more than 250mm depth may benefit from a very slight , almost undetectable slope to avoid ponding
