sludged exchanger

hi .a sludged heat exchanger. would the boiler make kettle noise and what would be the expected temps of flow and return pipes in such a scarnio? just trying to discover how i can recognise this problem on site. thank you chaps and merry xmas

A scaled up h/exchanger will kettle and give you some heat then go cold as the overheat stat kicks in as the limescale cooks the h/exchanger.

You mainly get the sludge depositing in the rads and pipework

invariably, you will find cold spots in lowest rads; compare the middle along the bottom of the rad with the sides near the valves. if the middle is colder, you have sludge.
