A bit of a nightmare, this one...
I'm looking for a detail hand plane not exceeding 100mm in length(4").
Detail/hand/thumb/squirreltail plane. Many names.
However all i find in UK are some cheap and nasty pressed steel and plastic rubbish (stanley) or beautiful but unreasonably priced pieces of art (veritas).
Tried looking on ebay only to find that its not any better. Mostly plastic/pressed sheet metal or crazy expensive ones. Unless you care to look at US of A results, in which case there is a "middle ground" - cast iron, fairly priced, but ripoff delivery.
Any ideas where i could get a decent new or used and a bit rusty but sturdy straight mini plane ? Not low angle but normal one.
At the moment i'm staking out some local clearance/auction holes, but being in northern ireland its a bit difficult to get anything...
Maybe someone got a surplus for sale ?
