Hi - Last Autumn I had an old outside toilet knocked through and reconnected. I live in a 1920's house in an area with a high water table. There is water under both my house and the neighbours (we are a terrace of 4). This is apparently common in our area.
Over the winter both myself and my neighbours have had a smell of sewage in our houses but ONLY when it is cold - i.e. not on warmer, wet days. I have had the drains at the front of the house checked by the water company.
We recently had a blockage at the rear which was cleared by a private drain man which was caused by a build up of limescale and the dreaded baby wipes and was accepted as being a general problem and not specific to one house.
The drain man confirmed that my toilet appeared to flush through to the main drain. My neighbours are convinced that the problem is on my property as I recently had work done but I am at a loss as to what the problem could be if my toilet is not backed up and it only smells when it is cold!
As a single mother without much DIY knowledge I am hoping some-one here can help or at least have some idea as to why a smell can come and go with the weather!
Thanks. Fi
