with regards to the isolation, most alarms i've seen fitted have a "base" which is hardwired to mains and then the alarm itself slides on and clicks in.

So surely if you want isolation to work on the alarm you just slide it off :D

and i think on a lighting circuit is better. Clearer Identification if it trips off

I still don't think it's dangerous to slide the alarm off its base without isolating the supply.
Afterall, he mentioned working on the alarm, not the base or wiring. He would isolate the supply for that.
