I live in a beautiful old Lake District stone house...so does my 'attached' neighbour. Their house has a much lower roof line and much lower chimney stack. The top of their stack is very close to the bottom of our pitched slate roof....hence when they light a fire our house fills with the smell of smoke (it even activates our smoke detectors!). Are their regulations governing the height of a chimney on old buildings? Or a way of 'smoke proofing' our house?
