The exterior walls of my house are rough rendered with a synthetic render. I want them smoother. Is there any tool I can use to sand off the sharp bits without creating excess dust or damage?

Sanding without dust or damage. Probably not.

Roughcast render is tough stuff, you are looking at a bolster chisel and hours upon hours of labour and the very likely chance of a big chunk of render falling off, your house will look like one of those in Afghanistan.

Contact a render company and get a quote for over skimming with a smooth polymeric type render.

thanks for the advice. I thought that may be the right way of doing things, but I was trying to cut costs and do it myself. Also, I was a bit worried about new render not adhering properly to the stuff thats already there and causing comlplications.
