smoothing out Artex ceiling

We have a heavily "artexed" ceiling which we would like smoothed out by plastering over the top, what's the best method to get the plaster to stick to the Artex ??
Any advice welcome

Scrape off high spots paint with FEBOND blue grit or Wickes bonding agent 2 skim coats next day.

Or if really heavy a tight coat of bonding plaster 1st.
