"snow-catcher" above conservatory?

I'm building a polycarbonate roofed conservatory on the back of the house. A bloke I know who is an ex-builder says I ought to install a "snow-catcher" above the house guttering, above the polycarb roof, to prevent smnow-slides and also pieces of roof tile damaging the roof. After last winter, and considering we do occasionally get bits of delaminated roof tile rattling down, it seems a sound idea. In fact, the high winds in February removed a whole ridge tile, which would have put a hole right through it!

Does anyone know anything about these or where I can get one from? It's something I've never come across before. The B&Q helpdesk staff looked blank when I tried to describe what I wanted!

Is it something I'd be better making myself, and if so, how best to do it?

Our neighbour had one. It was a low wire fence (about 200mm high) just above the gutter. They've just removed it as the conservatory has now been taken down.

No. it's a traditional name for the inhabitants of Staithes in Yorkshire.

Nah anyway. The name refers to a great weekend a few years back, with my now wife.
