I have recently been checking out the wiring on my upstairs ring circuit on my newly acquired house after reading comments on the forum. I have found that a couple of sockets have spurs off them which also feed another spur.

I know this is not allowed according to the regs and OSG but can you tell me is there any way round this without having to rewire the sockets, ie can I insert a fused connector unit in between the radial part somewhere?
If so would this be acceptable to an inspector for a periodic report?

find where the spur is taken from the ring and put a FCU here

you can insert the FCU anywhere between the branch from the ring and the first socket.

I would think that the most sensible location is next to the first socket on the spur (that way it will be next to one of the sockets that will stop working if the fuse blows)

Thanks very much for your quick replies sorry I wasn't here to see them as quick!

Can you also tell me if this is "legal" as far as a periodic report is concerned??

It may be an idea to fit a switched spur (providing there are no little fingers around) so you can isolate if need be locally.

Also, if you fit a spur with a neon, then you will know if the fuse has blown when the neon extinguishes.
