Providing there is no bath or shower in the room (i.e. people are likely not to be wet all over and barefooted) then there is no regulatary minimum, and 'good practice' should be applied. Usually this is taken to be at least a foot to 18" from the taps, or out of splashing range, whichever is greater. Although not compulsory, RCD supply to sockets and switches in areas where people may have wet hands is also a good thing.
Sadly there are a number of examples where sens eand good practice have been ommited !
