So while remedying incredibly poor work by the original contractor in my place. I found yet more cowboy nonsense inside a cavity. The shower outlet is connecting into the waste manifold without a rubber grommet. There is evidence of some slight leaking although not major thankfully. And thankfully no major sewer gas smell. Not to say it's not there and I'm not smelling it. But I can't withdraw the bend any more than 1-2cm, Not enough to be able to have a gap to fit anything like a grommet. And I'm not in a position to be able to remove the entire shower tray etc... and reinstall properly.

I understand with the exception of installing a proper grommet. Anything I do is a bodge.

I was thinking of wrapping the slightly withdrawn bend with self amalgamating tape, pushing back in and finishing with a thick bead of silicone.
Is there a better alternative?

I’m not au fait with those, but perhaps it is meant to be solvent welded?

Unfortunately doesn't seem to be an option here. Would be very handy if it was though. Generally the bend inserts directly into the rubber grommet that you can see in the other unused inlets.

That looks like a hepworth (wavin) soil manifold.
They are still made so maybe spare grommets are available.
Unfortunately I can't withdraw the bend enough to refit a spare grommet. I can find them but wouldn't be able to fit one in. As the bend doesn't clear the opening at all.

Sounds like a good enough plan. Clean and dry before applying silicone.
