Hi All,

I was wondering if someone could help me, I had a drain survey (cctv) done recently, and there are multiple cracks at the bottom of the svp pipe rest bend. This is the upstream pipe from the man hole to the SVP. I have been told that the cost will be around £650. I have no idea if this is reasonable, will appreciate your views on this.

Thanks in advance.

If the " multiple cracks " aren`t big enough to catch wc paper and cause a blockage .....Then leave it and spend the money @ christmas. If you feel like it you could excavate round it and find a massive lump of concrete encasing the rest bend -as is usual- so what`s going to happen to it anyway  Sounds like you got a dose of Kid-ology along with the "survey" 8)

Thanks for the quick response. This check was part of the pre home buying drainage survey. This is what the engineer said in the report.

"When surveyed from Man hole 1 upstream towards the SVP, defects were found at the bottom of the rest bend which were multiple cracks. Recommended work would be to install a bendy local line patch repair to stop foul water leaking from the rest bend into the surrounding ground.

I have the Report with the multiple cracks showing from 12 to 6 o clock positions.

Once again many thanks for your comments.

Thanks Nige, this might be a silly question, could the leak damage the concrete block encasing in the short term?

Cheers

Worst that will happen is it'll make the ground a bit wet and smelly around that area. £650 seems a bit steep, might be worth asking a builder you trust to quote to excavate and replace the bend if you are worried about it.

If its an external plastic stack it shouldnt be difficult to do, depending on depth. Iron slightly more tricky, internal stack will be even more awkward.....
