Original problem: on a concealed 2 dial (on/off, temperature) shower mixer I could get the On/Off dial off easily but the temperature one wouldn't budge (like there was something else holding it on), despite loosening/removing the screw with an allen key. I had two of these (manufacturer unknown, I inherited on purchasing the house this year) with the same symptoms.
The reason I removed it was, I followed another post suggesting WD40 wherever possible and leaving it for an hour or two (though I don't have it to hand now - I looked at a LOT of posts this morning!) before brute-force pulling/wiggling it off.
I posted after two brute force attempts. The third attempt worked!
