Solvent-free adhesive on coving

Hello,

I'm trying to fit some Wickes Lightweight Duropolymer Coving in our bedrooms. I'm using solvent-free adhesive as directed, but am having problems getting the coving to stick properly... in some areas, the adhesive cracks as it dries (mainly along wall surface) and the coving becomes loose.

I have tried taking coving down, painting the (bare) plaster with dilute pva, then trying again when dry. But the same thing happens. Even with different brands of adhesive.

Could it be affected by the cold temperature at the moment - it is freezing up there (rads currently off wall).

Any advice gratefully received...

Might be worth trying ARTEX powder mixed up thick  that`s what is used to good effect with plaster cove - and that`s heavier.
