soot door installation

I am fitting a stove and want to fit a soot door at the back of the fireplace. Everything seems straight forward except that i presume the back of the fireplace is a cavity wall with polystyrene insulation how do seal the cavity around the soot door opening or will it just be a solid wall?
 
just in case anybody else is doing something similar I am going to cut a 9" cavity block in half and use it as a duct
