The last two days there has been a soot smell in living room,Gas boiler is upstairs and serviced Nov. Next door has gas fire with vent on wall about meter from my window. Does any one have suggestion whwer smell is coming from. thanks

Do you have open fireplace?
Should not be any soot smell from gas appliances.
Has high winds recently.
Age of property.
Should not be any soot smell from gas appliances.

If you have a redundant flue which is vented in the livingroom the high winds we have had recently will bring the odours from the flue into the room especially if the chimney stack has open pots.
