sorry.. another thread - pond pumps

I have been trying to help out a relation with a pump problem.
Not sure if its a fault on the pump, but it seems to not pump as well after being on a while.

After switching it off, lifting it out the pond and blasting out the filter screen thing, and also through the pump itself it runs a lot better. I have left it in shallow water and plan to give the water and silty muck to settle after a few hours, then put it lower down to circulate properly. any suggestions?

I think it might be better to raise it off the bottom. It will still circulate the water without sucking in silt.
Another alternative would be to have an external filter - mine includes a UV lamp as well - which will collect silt and other things and be much easier to clean out.

I found it was down to cleaning. Run for day and clean filter, then run another day and clean filter and continue and slowly it removes the nutrients from the pond. They are nutrients so don't waist them they will make the rhubarb really grow well. However not really an electrical question so may be there is a better section to post it in?

Make & model might help or a pic of the pump at least. Different types work in different ways.
