Hi,
just discovered on a holiday visit that my enderly father has removed a light switch that went faulty and cannot remember what wires went where.
I have had a look at lots of other posts on this subject but as they all appear to be using different couloured wires, I thought it would be safer to ask again.
Being typical scots, my parents would only pay for an electrician if it was a dire emergency, and they are too proud to let me pay for one for them!!
Anyway, one switch downstairs, one upstairs for light halfway up.
The upstairs switch had jammed solid, so he removed it but forgot what wires went where. We have the following:
Red wire, live only when downstairs switched
Red&Blue twisted together, and are permanently live no matter what you do with the downstairs switch.
Yellow&Black twisted together.
Not sure what needs to go to COM, L1 and L2 on the new switch my dad bought.
The downstairs switch is as follows, (but doesn't do anything as the wires upstairs are all disconnected)
RED wire connected to COM. This goes live when you switch on/off this switch.
BLUE permanently live (not affected by any switch)
YELLOW.
(can't remember whether Blue or yellow is L1 - sorry)
If this does not make sense, please let me know and I can try to explain further.
Many thanks for any assistance that can be provided.
Seasons Greeting..........
