Soundproofing ceilings with insulated plasterboard

Has anyone tried screwing insulated plasterboards to ceiling joists?

I want to improve soundpoofing between floors but do not want to add extra weight to the ceiling with double skins of board or high density soundcheck boards.

The original plasterboards were just shy of 15mm with skim coat of plaster included (they are coming down due to refurbishment). A friend suggested replacing them with insulated plasterboards for better soundproofing, especially if I also add insulated batts between the joists above.

My alternative solution is to replace them with 15mm thick boards, joint compound, seal and paint. The house is 1948 with cavity wall exterior and single brick walls interior, supporting floating cinder block walls upstairs.

I dont think the insulated boards will help much for sound, rockwool or batts between joists would be more beneficial. The insulated board though may well help the room warm up alot quicker.

Firstly, the insulated boards are going to be expensive to purchase. I've done this before and it's cheaper to buy the insulation (i.e. 10mm celotex) and screw that first. Then screw normal plasterboard up. It's really warm, but will not help with the sound much !
