Hello everyone,

Story so far...

family has a house in the Pyrenees, where I stayed last week.

On the last night we had a storm and lost some tiles so had to get someone in quick

he's done the work and sent photos, but my brother reckons he should have put morter between ridge tiles other wise water gets in.

any thoughts?

pointed them with his feet i see..... yes they would normally be bedded together also. there will be a water check bar which is out of site but they should still be pointed over. Your brother is correct.

spend a lot of time in France.. both working and family.

Whats a water check bar?

will water be coming in immediatetly - i.e does it need emergency filling?

There are more than one type of these ridge and some will have a small bump or raised lip on one end, (water check) this will reduce the amount if any rain from running off the end of the ridge tile.
However, the water could still build up behind the edge mortar.

Saying that we edge bed and point all round.. belt and braces..

spoke to the roofer who said the ridges are bedded underneath each tile. There is a large overlap of each tile with run offs for the water. This means that water cannot get through the gaps and makes it look better. Also, as it is a small gap to fill, sand and cement will crack in it.


cant see that from photos obviously, but think i trust him!
