I am trying to locate a supplier of general purpose springs. What I require is a spring that would adjusts the governor setting for a Honda Lawn Mower to make the damn thing run faster. (I can't find a set point adjustment for the speed setting on the machine). I am presently using a couple of Rubber Bands supplied courtesy of the Postman who has a habit of disposing his on my drive. As these are UV degradable, I want to replace them with a weak coiled spring with a similar force characteristic.
I have searched for local Suppliers and the Internet without any success.
Anyone got any Ideas ???

You can buy sets of springs off ebay for a few quid, but whether they'll suit or not is anyone's guess. If there's an instrument (as in mechanical measuring device) repairer local to you they might help.
One thing I can tell you is that most small tension springs can be cut down to length. Cut them one coil too long, then use a hammer and the edge of a vice, or similar right angled edge to gently bend out and separate the last coil. if you want the loop central put the loop in the vice and carefully tap the main coil over. It's easier to do than to describe!

Thanks Dave. I did try e-Bay without success, but now you have suggested it I will try again.

If you have a local tool hire co. they can be helpful in sourcing things like springs etc. ...pinenot :)

Thanks Pinenot - I never thought of that as a source of 'Stuff' I will try it out
