I believe there are two widely available plasterboard edge types i.e square and tapered.

For ceiling plasterboard, which would consequently be plastered over, does it matter if the plasterboard is square or tapered?

I was thinking of getting some sound resistant plasterboard for a bedroom as there can be heavy traffic and it might help give some additional reduction to noise. The plasterboard is being replaced as it had been cracked.

However, this plasterboard has a tapered edge.

AFAIK tapered edge was introduced to allow taping and jointing to be done as opposed to full skim. No reason why you can't skim it, though
