Whilst musing the news this morning about HS2 I came across this paragraph. The two boring machines will be named and blessed in a Christian Ceremony, I thought "REALLY".
Further reading, talks of a disgruntled Father who beheaded his Daughter "Barbara" whom had converted to Christianity in the 3rd Century AD, whilst beheading his Daughter the Father was struck by Lightning and immediately died.
As a result, some time later, Barbara became the Patron Saint of Explosives, sometime later later the Patron Saint of Tunnelling & Boring, Barbara is the Patron Saint of many things in today's age and well celebrated, Santa Barbara in California was named after her according to history.
Being a sceptic I find the story an interesting read but question it's authenticity, not to unlike a well known book.
